What is the NADA 5 Point Protocol training?

The NADA protocol consists of the insertion of five, small, fine, sterile stainless steel needles under the surface of the skin on specific sites in the outer ear.

By the end of the four day training the student should be able to demonstrate:

  • Sensitivity in approach to the client.

  • Explain benefits and limitations of the protocol

  • Appropriate positioning – holding of the ear – touching the head

  • Clean field

  • Good needle management and needle security

  • Correct point location

  • Good needle insertion and use of the breathing techniques

  • Good management of a quiet ‘yin’ setting

  • All aspects of health & safety involved in removal and retrieval of all needles

  • Needle accountability and safe disposal of all needles

  • Safe use and disposal of sharps bins and clinical waste

  • How can training in the NADA Protocol help others?

The NADA protocol was initially founded to aid relaxation and wellbeing for people suffering with substance misuse problems, and/or in recovery. In more recent years, other areas of treatment that incorporate the NADA protocol as an effective intervention are: stress, anxiety management & panic disorder, trauma recovery in communities following major catastrophes, aiding recovery from some psychiatric medications dependency, relaxation in young people with behavioral disorders, smoking cessation and ameliorating side effects from drug treatment in cancer. The protocol is known to have a calming effect on the central nervous system.

Upon successful completion of a NADA-GB training course provided by a registered NADA-GB trainer, practitioners are awarded an annual certificate to practice the NADA protocol.
