Aromatherapy Massage

What is Aromatherapy Massage?

Aromatherapy massage is a deeply relaxing form of massage using a medium of aromatic essential oils diluted in carrier oil. Your Aromatherapist will perform a consultation and will agree with you a chosen blend.  The chosen blend will then be gently massaged into the body, so that the essential oils can be absorbed gradually to do their work. It is a deeply therapeutic experience, promoting both deep relaxation and the therapeutic effects of the essential oils, such as invigoration, comfort, decongestant, calming etc. A full treatment will focus on the whole body, however this can easily be customised according to your needs, for example you may just want a back massage, or a facial. Clients comment that they feel wonderfully relaxed afterwards and ready to face anything.

What can Aromatherapy do for me?

Some people turn to aromatherapy massage for help with a specific symptom or condition while others choose to have treatment to help maintain good health, as a preventive measure, or simply to improve their general sense of wellbeing. Because aromatherapy massage aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for a range of conditions.  Many people return to this form of massage again and again because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.

What can I expect during an Aromatherapy Massage?

After the consultation, one or more essential oils are selected based on what you need and are mixed in with the massage oil or lotion. The subtle aroma of the essential oils fill the air around you during the massage. The therapist may choose to focus on one particular area or use the whole body to try and alleviate your problems.

How long is a session?

We carry out this treatment in one hour sessions.  Your first session will involve a full consultation to find out about your main concerns, and to assess your overall past health history. Your practitioner will work out a treatment plan using this information and tailor the process to your individual needs. Information about any medication/supplements you are taking will be useful to us at this stage, as well as any recent test results. After the consultation, there will be time for a short treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on the severity of your symptoms and the nature of your condition, we will take time in your initial consultation to work out a timescale which bests suits your individual needs. However, we do usually see clients around once a week for first four weeks.

Do I need to bring or wear anything special?

This is a very discreet form of massage despite the fact that items of clothing are removed, our aim is to ensure that the client feels as comfortable as possible at all times. We advise that you wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and some clients prefer to wear shorts but this is very much personal preference.

What happens if I fall asleep during my massage?

Falling asleep during aromatherapy massage is actually very common and is nothing to be embarrassed about, in fact a large proportion of our client's do fall into a deep sleep during the process due to its relaxing nature.

Can I have an Aromatherapy Massage if I have allergies?

Yes, during the initial consultation we will discuss any prior allergic reactions and we will adapt the treatment and use alternative oil combinations to suit your needs.

How will I feel after the massage?

We expect you to feel very calm and relaxed after the massage, however if you have had a more uplifting oil combination you could actually feel invigorated and full of energy, please be aware that the oils used during the therapy may transfer on to your clothing.
